Hamburger & Cabbage Skillet Recipe

  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 1/2 chopped onion or 2 Tbsp. minced
  • 2 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1/4 - 1/2 medium head of cabbage depending on your taste
  • 1/4 tsp. oregano
  • 2 - 3 tsp. celery salt
  • 2 - 3 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • generous grinding of pepper or 1/2 tsp.
  • 32 oz. chicken broth
  • 2 c. instant rice
  • 1/4 - 1/2 c. shredded cheese mozzarella or cheddar

  • Brown ground beef with onion and minced garlic, drain off the fat when completely cooked, and add it back to the skillet.
  • Add cabbage, seasonings, broth, and rice.
  • Cover, cook on medium for 10 - 15 minutes or until the rice is done.
  • Remove from heat. Add shredded cheese and replace the lid until the cheese is melty.

Notes

You can easily serve this as a one-pot meal or add green beans as a side. My husband likes to eat his with saltine crackers, I prefer cornbread, but crusty French bread would taste wonderful with this dish as well.
