Most kids get some sort of Christmas break. Homeschoolers sometimes get an even longer break, but even if you don’t homeschool as my family does, you’ll want to find something to keep those kiddos busy while they’re on Christmas break. With these Christmas ornaments, you’ll keep them busy and have some adorable new decorations for your Christmas tree.
Depending on the age or ages of your little humans, you may have to offer varying degrees of assistance. Making ornaments is a memory making experience, so try to go with the flow and let your young ones express their creativity.
Places I Buy Inexpensive Craft Supplies
Something else that makes homemade Christmas ornaments a great gift idea is their affordability. When I make ornaments or do any kind of crafting, I try to find good deals on my craft supplies. Let’s face facts here moms, kids waste a lot of craft stuff. They spill paint and use way too much glue. It makes it a little easier to let them do their own thing, even if it’s messy, if I know I didn’t spend a small fortune on their craft supplies.
Here are some places I shop for supplies for our craft projects…
Dollar Tree
Everything is always a dollar, but the selection varies from store to store at the Dollar Tree. For instance, our local store doesn’t carry a wide variety, so I try to visit the Dollar Tree in a nearby larger town. If you know you’ll be making a lot of something, you can always order the supplies online and have them shipped to you.
Michaels
Many, many moons ago, I worked at a Michaels in Greenwood, Indiana. I loved working there and bought way too many art and craft supplies. As a matter of fact, I spent a lot of my paycheck there. I love Michaels stores! They run some great sales and offer excellent coupons, frequently 40% off one item. Definitely a store to keep up with.
JoAnn’s
JoAnn’s is another craft store that is constantly having great sales. They also offer weekly 40% off one item coupons. These are easily accessible to almost everyone with a smartphone app. I love to shop at JoAnn’s for fabric and yarn deals, but they have other craft supplies as well.
Hobby Lobby
I love Hobby Lobby stores. They offer a 40% off one item coupon weekly. When I visit these stores I go straight for the home decor department. I can absolutely stand behind a company that doesn’t hide its faith in God. Their wall art pieces with Bible verses are my favorite. Hobby Lobby also runs some phenomenal sales. We got a great deal on my daughter’s wedding flowers at our local store several years ago. Their sales cycle about every three weeks.
Amazon Arts & Crafts
Amazon is another option for finding some great craft supplies. You’ll definitely have a lot of options. Pricing and quality will vary from product to product.
Walmart
In the past, Walmart has had only basic craft supplies. More recently, my local store (well, the closest one to me is 45 minutes away) has started carrying items that you could only get at the more specialized craft stores. They aren’t carrying a whole lot of variety, but I’m able to find most of the supplies needed for crafting with kids and minimal specialty items like jewelry findings, a good selection of yarns and fabrics, and a spectrum of colors of acrylic paint.
