5 Tips For A Great Family Photo Shoot
Are you planning a family photo shoot? Getting the perfect family photo is possible, but not without some planning.
I’ve asked my friend, Rebekah Ward Taylor of Rebekah Taylor Photography, to help us out with some helpful tips for making our family photo shoots successful.
Rebekah comes from a large family and knows, first-hand, how trying it can be to wrangle little ones.
5 Family Photography Tips
Parents know better than anyone that children grow up quickly! During their younger years, they are changing so rapidly, and it’s only natural to want to capture memories before they change and grow! But having a successful photo shoot with small children can seem somewhat daunting! Here are some tips to make everything run smoothly!
Don’t skip the nap!
Well-rested children tend to be much happier! A good idea is to have nap time several hours before the photos, with adequate time to wake up and get ready.
Don’t forget the snacks!
Make sure the children are fed, but it’s always a good idea to have a couple of snacks on hand for an emergency snack break! Make sure to include foods that aren’t messy, and clear drinks that can’t stain.
Don’t stress about smiles!
Natural smiles are the best, and the best way to get some genuine smiles and laughs is to just have fun together!
Don’t worry about matching!
Instead, choose a couple colors so that the outfits coordinate. It’s also a good idea to steer clear of small plaid/checked prints, as these can sometimes look a little busy in the picture.
Do plan for Golden Hour!
Golden Hour refers to the first hour of sunlight in the morning, and the last hour of sunlight in the evening. During this time of year, that falls around 3:30-4:00 p.m. here in Middle Tennessee. Taking photos at this time will help avoid the bright sunlight that causes harsh shadows, and help create beautiful pictures!
Thank you so much, Rebekah! These are some amazingly helpful tips. I specifically like the tip about not stressing about the smiles. That’s what always drives me nuts and I needed the reminder.
